A little bit about me…
I’m a big fan of any form of art that is moving and inspiring, and I have been involved in the arts in some capacity for as long as I can remember. As a kid I loved to draw and I was always figuring out new ways to interpret what I saw in the world with a pencil and a piece of paper. My parents recognized early on that I was driven to be creative, and my father’s love of being outdoors and always carrying a camera with him got passed on to me. He gave me his Canon A-1 camera and a few lenses when I was 15, and suddenly I had a new creative outlet and a hobby that I loved. At 19 I started working in a film lab and that sparked a passion that ended up turning into a career.
When I was 24, I began assisting a local portrait photographer who mainly worked with families, high school seniors, weddings, and corporate events. It was here that I learned all about studio lighting and how to incorporate technical skills alongside creativity. I was able to be a “second shooter” for him and quickly gained his trust in my ability to see and compose images that reflected his brand. A few years later I moved on to a corporate photography job with a regional retail company called Bealls. I photographed clothing and various other products, helped build a second photo studio for the eCommerce department, and also mentored and trained a junior photographer. At 32 I landed a job working for HSN, where I was a lead photographer shooting on-figure fashion items with models, went on location shoots around the Tampa Bay Area, and did editorial print photography for high end jewelry and watches. I enjoyed the work but eventually wanted a bigger opportunity with a global company.
I found that opportunity at Amazon.
In 2012 I started at Amazon as a product photographer and within two years I became the lead photographer for their editorial department where I worked on large-scale global imaging campaigns alongside Amazon’s creative and marketing teams. I traveled four times a year to their Brooklyn, NY studio and quickly became an asset to the entire Amazon Imaging team. I was given the opportunity to travel globally to train Amazon photographers in Mexico City, Singapore, and Melbourne, Australia. I spent almost 10 years there, and I couldn’t be happier with what I accomplished along the way.
As a photographer, I love the challenge of manipulating light to create compelling imagery. Having worked in the photo industry for more than 20 years, my portfolio is always evolving. A new passion is always on the horizon and I maintain an open mind to any concept that surfaces.
No matter what I’m working on I make sure to pay close attention to details with technical accuracy. But I do leave room for creativity, because you still have to have fun, right? Being open to that kind of spontaneity and shooting “in the moment” has always helped me stand apart from my peers. In this competitive industry, those kinds of things matter a lot.
While pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Communications I decided to leave the corporate world and become a freelance photographer in the greater Cincinnati Area. Since 2022 I have photographed one-of-a-kind works of art for Rookwood Pottery, food and products for Kroger, and returned to the outdoors to shoot for Great Parks of Hamilton County. I have even carried my father’s old Canon A-1 into the woods with me a few times, just for nostalgic purposes.
When I’m not at work I can most likely be found spending time with family and friends, traveling, or lost somewhere in the sea and multitude of a live concert crowd with my fiancée.
